Foster for TUSD - The Budget

Show me your budget and I’ll show you your priorities:

We are more transparent than ever. We’ve won two awards for financial reporting and our monthly budget presentations are accessible to everyone online. Our previous CFO had over 20 findings to rectify when we submitted our final budget. Now we only have 6 to correct. This is incredible progress when it comes to our finance department.

With extreme budget cuts from the state, we have shifted resources and priorities to increase classroom spending by 4%. We could put more money in the classroom by outsourcing our bus drivers, custodians and cafeteria workers. That will be the solution by some....but not mine...our classified staff is part of our team and their jobs are not collateral I'm willing to cut just to raise our classroom spending percentage at the state.

We’ve given four employee raises so far and I am working every day to do even more for teacher salaries. We gave our staff a raise before the Prop 123 vote so our employees knew they'd get more money with or without voter support. For teachers, this was a $1300 increase on the salary schedule. When Prop 123 passed, we added $700 more....so each teacher has an increase of $2000 per year.  And that's before Prop 301 performance pay. For participating in 10 district PLC meetings on Wednesday afternoons, teachers can earn another $3000.  Together this is $5000 more a year for our teachers. I am very proud of this work with TEA and administration to make this happen for the professional educators who serve our kids in TUSD.
